 SEPTEMBER

Dear Friends,

It’s a funny old world we live in!

A plea for women to boycott Mass on a given Sunday in August coincided with an appeal by Church leaders for a “Back to Church Sunday” in September.  Whatever the confusing signals in Irish Christianity, one thing is clear: church attendance is on the decline, especially in cities like Dublin.  In the Parish, the decline in attendance takes the form of irregular church going.  By regular, many people attend once or twice a month, instead of weekly.  As there is always sufficient enough people at worship, especially at the 10 a.m. service, the decline in attendance is masked.

 I am not one to be giving out, but as we enter September, can I ask you to consider that each Sunday is a “Back to Church Sunday.”  I do so for the following reasons:

·       To worship God is a unique privilege; without worship we shrink as people.

 ·       To worship God is a collective experience, which runs counter to our highly individualistic lives.

·       To worship God is being attentive to Him, in prayer, praise, Communion and what He has to share with us in His Word.

In September, there is an opportunity to worship at:

  8.30 a.m., a quiet, contemplative Communion service;

10.00 a.m., a contemporary service with something for children;

11.30 a.m., a quieter, more reflective service;

  5.30 p.m., a fresh new expression of church at the Beacon Centre, Sandyford.

All of these services are accessible to everyone.  A huge amount of work goes into preparing for them.  They are all God-centred.  Why not sample them?  Encourage each other in the Spirit, as we “worship the Lord in the beauty of His Holiness.”

Yours sincerely,

 FERRAN

THE ENGINE ROOM

Prayer is a priority and a perennial problem for Christians. The Engine Room is a monthly prayer gathering for the Parish. It is a place to pray and to learn to pray.  Prayer is foundational to all that goes on in the Parish, hence the idea of the Engine Room, people at work in prayer, propelling the ship of the Church forward on our journey of faith. Why not join us, at 8.00 p.m. in the Parish Centre on Wednesday 15th September.

The Beacon Greenhouse is taking a short break, and so will not meet from Sunday 27th June to Sunday 29th August inclusive.
Our next meeting will therefore be on Sunday 5th September, at 5.30 p.m. in Starbucks, The Beacon South Quarter.  All are most welcome to come along.  In the meantime, please pray for our outreach in the Beacon area, that the Lord may touch many lives with His love.
